Four Things to do In Orlando (Not Disney)

Orlando (2)When you think about Orlando, the first thing that you probably comes to mind is Disney World. There are more things to do down there besides Disney. In today’s post, I want to share with you four things to do in Orlando that is not Disney.

Universal Orlando Resort

Universal Orlando is a theme park resort. They are Disney’s biggest competitor. The area consists of Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk Orlando.

Universal Studios Florida is a theme park that focuses on movies and television. It is separated into eight areas which are Production Central, Woody Woodpeckers Kidzone, Hollywood, Park Wide Entertainment, New York, San Francisco (Closed. Being changed into Fast & Furious) and the Wizarding World of Harry Pitter – Diagon Alley.

Universal Islands of Adventure is a theme park that is divided into seven sections. They are Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, The Lost Continent and Seuss Landing.

Universal CityWalk Orlando is the only area that I’ve been to at the Universal Orlando Resort. CityWalk is an entertainment, dining, and shopping district. It is a very fun place to go to. There are numerous places to eat such as Pat O’Brien’s Bar, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and NBC Sports Grill & Brew. There is also an AMC Theatre and a couple of clubs out there including the Bob Marley club.

Orlando Magic Game

The next thing on the list is to check out an Orlando Magic game. They play their home games at the Amway Center which is located in downtown Orlando. They have a young team and are currently in the rebuilding process. That means the tickets shouldn’t be that expensive. I’ve been to a couple of Orlando Magic games over the years. If you’re an NBA fan, you will enjoy the atmosphere.

Orlando is home to a lot of shopping areas. The Florida Mall is one of the largest single-story malls in the country. It is located near the Orlando Airport. The Mall at Millenia is an upscale mall located International Drive. It is home to the largest Macy’s in central Florida. Orlando is also home to several outlet stores as well. You can find a lot of deals at the outlet stores.

There are over 170 golf courses in the Orlando area. Orlando is the home of The Golf Channel. The Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Reunion Resort, Waldorf Astoria Club and Grand Cypress Resort are a few that you should check out.

As you can see, Orlando has more to offer than just Disney World. The next time you plan a trip, you should check some of these things out.

What else have you done in Orlando besides Disney?

  1. I’ve never been to Orlando, but I’m interested to see how the Universal Orlando Resort competes with Disney’s theme park price wise.

  2. You provided a great list of activities for the Orlando area. Here are a few other ideas:
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum –
    Holy Land Experience –

Ripley’s museum is an attraction for the entire family. If you like the book, you will love this museum!
I’ve never been to the Holy Land Experience, but I’ve heard some positive reviews on it. Definitely on my list next time I’m in Orlando.

  3. Good to know, especially when it’s super hot out. I’ve known more than one family that made a trip to Florida just to go to Disneyworld and it was so hot they had to leave! Shopping mall would have been a cool relief.

  4. I haven’t been to Orlando for about 15 years, but when I was there the only thing we did besides Disney was go to Universal for a day. I have a friend who used to live in Orlando and I know he went to a number of Magic games.

  5. While I think Disney is amazing…I would recommend Celebration Fl..really nice shops ,eateries and a wonderful walking park there. Very Close to Orlando

  6. I made a short non-Disney trip to Orlando this winter. (That’s not totally true since I did spend a half-day at Epcot, my favorite part of Disney). I have a 12-year-old son and Universal was more interesting to him than the Disney parks. Wanted to go to a Magic game but I was there during the all-star break. Other things I found included a really good BBQ restaurant called Pig Floyd and the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

  7. Hi Buddy!!

Thanks for this article. I had no idea there was so much more to Orlando than theme parks! I don’t think I ever hear about anything related to Orlando other than the amusement parks or the facilities associated with those parks.

As we all know that Orlando city is known as “The Theme Park Capital Of The World” but as you have written in yout article that mean there is a lot to enjoy in Orlando city rather than just theme parks.
