Men's apparelThis is the long-awaited second installment of my Side Hustle Series. In this series, I will be highlighting people who are making money via a side hustle or their own business. In today’s installment, I interviewed a young entrepreneur that started a men’s apparel line.

Clay Eugene Campbell is an entrepreneur from Mobile, Alabama. He is the owner of Eugene’s LLC. They design men’s clothing. Eugene’s LLC is a “confidence” brand. Clay has a prosthetic leg, but he hasn’t let that stop him from going after his dreams. I had the opportunity to interview Clay a few weeks ago. Our conversation was very informative. He dropped some gems. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did.

How did you get interested in clothing?

I got interested in clothing in Grad school. I’ve always been fascinated by entrepreneurship. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology. I realized that I liked clothing a lot. So, I decided to start with men’s apparel specifically underwear. I wanted my line to embrace confidence. My MBA helped me learn the business aspect of things.

Why did you start with underwear?

I didn’t see anyone tapping into the underwear brands market. I wanted to bring that young professional look to it.

How long have you been in operation?

Eugene’s LLC has been in operation since 2009.

Is this part-time or full-time for you?

I have been running Eugene’s full-time for a year and a half now.

Where do you want the business to go moving forward?

I want my brand to become a global brand. That is the overall goal. I plan to expand to more items than just underwear. I’m also working on different lines of apparel.

What has been your biggest obstacle so far?

My biggest obstacle so far has been patience. It’s not always easy to be patient, but you must have some in business.

I want to share with you my 5 step rule of entrepreneurship.

Step 1 – Prepare yourself

Step 2 – Patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It is a slow and steady grind. You want to be prepared when it does come.

Step 3 – Learn how not to accept no. Keep going.

Step 4 – Gut (Intuition) Listen to it! It is usually right.

Step 5 – Have some faith. In this game, you will need some type of faith. Never give up.

The grind is real. It takes time to perfect whatever you are working on.

What is some advice for someone that is trying to get started?

Be patient. It is the key to every business. Do you want to build a legacy or be rich? Be consistent. Make sure that you have some kind of integrity and character. The money will come. Take the time to perfect your product.

How can people contact you or order from you?
