Fun Things To Do In Atlanta

Fun things in AtlantaAtlanta Georgia is my hometown. It’s a wonderful city that offers plenty to do. Don’t be fooled by crime statistics or by reality TV. Atlanta is still a nice safe city. This is a quick guide of things that you can do while visiting.

Atlanta’s weather is typically decent year round. The winters are usually mild (except this one). The spring fluctuates from cool mornings to warm afternoons. Summer is good and hot. Fall is unpredictable. The temperature varies day to day.

Downtown

Downtown Atlanta offers plenty of things to do. The Centennial Olympic Park is located downtown. The park hosts several events each year such as concerts and firework shows. The Georgia Aquarium is located near the park. It is one of the biggest aquariums in the world housing more than 100,000 animals. The World of Coca-Cola is a cool place to visit. It is an exhibition where you learn about the history of Coca-Cola. You also get the chance to try samples as well.

Midtown

Midtown is an area north of downtown. The Fox Theatre is one of the best performing arts venues in the city. It has been in Midtown since 1929. Piedmont Park is also a place you should visit. The park is great for exercising, having a picnic or just people watching. They have several events at Piedmont such as Music Midtown and the Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Shopping

There are several places where you can shop in Atlanta. ย Here are three that you should check out.

Atlantic Station is actually a neighborhood near midtown. They have shopping and restaurants. The place is vibrant all year.

Lenox Square Mall is located in Buckhead. The mall is usually busy all the time. Depending on when you go you could see a celebrity or 2.

Phipps Plaza is an upscale mall located in Buckhead.

Auburn Avenue

Auburn Avenue is an area where black businesses once thrived. The area is currently going through revitalization. The Martin Luther King Historical Center is also located on Auburn Ave. Click here for more info.

Places To Eat

There are hundreds of restaurants to eat at in Atlanta. These four are worth checking out.

Mary Mac’s Tea Room – This place has good old fashion soul food. If you miss your Grandmothers cooking check this place out.

JR Crickets – The best place to get hot wings in the city. There are several locations in the city to choose from.

Gladys Knight Chicken & Waffles – Chicken & Waffles is a great combination. Make sure you get there early because this place is always packed.

The Varsity – The Varsity is a historic fast food restaurant. They have great chili dogs and hamburgers. You can’t come to Atlanta and not eat at the Varsity.

Sports

Fun things in Atlanta

Atlanta has teams in the 3 main professional sports leagues. The Atlanta Braves play in the MLB. The Atlanta Falcons play in the NFL and the Atlanta Hawks play in the NBA. It’s usually not hard to get tickets to most games because our bandwagon fans hardly show up ๐Ÿ™‚ . GA Tech is also located here. They have teams that play several sports as well.

These are just a few things that you can check out in Atlanta. There are so much more things that I could have listed.

  7. I visited Atlanta during a conference. I especially enjoyed the penguin exhibit at the aquarium. You went through tunnels underneath and could “pop up” in a clear, plastic tube and come nose to beak with a penguin.
