My To-Don’t List

To don't listUp until a couple weeks ago I had never heard of a “to don’t list”. I was reading a post on the site Budgets are Sexy that was titled “My To Don’t List“. That article peaked my interest. I found out that a to don’t list is a list of things that you shouldn’t do because they are bad habits, time wasters or things that hold you back from having a successful life.

Here are the things that are on my to don’tย list.

Don’t feed into negativity

I have a lot that I’m trying to do in 2016. I can’t afford to have anyone or anything negative around me.

Don’t procrastinate

I’m human and I will admit that I procrastinate from time to time (especially during the 1st week of this past Christmas break). I have to make sure that I do less of this in 2016.

Don’t chase ass

I don’t do this now, but I felt like writing it as a reminder.

Don’t succumb to peer pressure

A few times last year I spent money when I knew damn well it could have gone to my savings account or to a bill. That won’t happen this year.

Don’t always say yes

I have to realize that I can’t always be available to do things. These student loans won’t pay themselves off.

Don’t always say no

On the flipside, I have to remember that I am still human. I can’t always say no to things. It’s good to get out and have fun every once in a while. Everyone needs a break from their grind every so often.

Don’t let people get to you

I’ve realized that I think outside of the box. I don’t want to have a normal life. Everybody isn’t going to understand what I’m working on and why I’m doing it. I refuse to let that bother.

Don’t underestimate what you can do in a year

I’ve read so many success stories from bloggers last year. Their lives completely changed for the better in ONE YEAR. I realize that I can be that next success story.

Don’t forget to keep reading

Reading other blogs and books keep me motivated. Every time I read a new book I learn something different. For me expanding my knowledge is one of the best things that I can do.

Don’t waste time

I wasted a lot of time in my 20’s and I don’t have anything to show for it. I refuse to let that happen in my 30’s. Time is my most precious asset. I refuse to waste it.

What’s on your to don’t list?

  1. 1) Don’t wast time. It’s to precious to waste.
    2) Don’t bother people. They will go away from you.
    3) Don’t panic if you run into a trouble. Work and be patient. You’ll do it, sure!
    4) Don’t spend too much money – save them for your future.
    5) Don’t think you’re the best one – there are people much more intelligent than you are.
    6) Don’t think you’re the worst – it’s just a question of point of view.
    7) Don’t procrastinate – it is a bad habit to do so.
    8) Don’t sleep too much – you can live more.
    9) Don’t forget your parents – they have given you life.
    10) Don’t worry – be happy.

  2. This is a great list, Jason! I like the one-year statement. It’s pretty incredible what you can accomplish in a year if you are open to new opportunities and jump on them when they show up in your life.

  3. 1) Don’t wash any more kleenex ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Great list you have going. Many of yours are on my own, so I’ll add just this one: Don’t fret about the problem, focus on developing the solution. Cheers to a great 2016!

  5. In a period of time when everyone have a goal… a to do list, you are asking for don’t do list? For me: don’t make that mistake twice!

  6. Great list. You crack me up sometimes (your 3rd point). I don’t have time to feed into negativity this year either and need to learn how to stop saying yes to everything.

  7. Yep to the steering clear of all negativity that it’s possible to avoid. Life is too short for people like that.

  8. Jason, I’ve never heard of a to don’t list but what a neat idea. My contribution:
Don’t get stressed because everything wasn’t done today – there is always (we hope) tomorrow.

  9. I love the idea of a to-don’t list. Don’t worry so much would have to be on my list. On a day-to-day basis there are a lot of little things that can go on a don’t do list – things we do out of habit or tradition or a feeling we should do them, but aren’t giving us joy and aren’t really necessary.

  10. I am prone to daydreaming, which sometimes causes problems for me, so I’d put “Don’t daydream, or at least don’t daydream so much” on my to-don’t list.

  11. A “to don’t” list makes sense as we need to know what we do not wish to do.

    I laughed at point 3!!

    My list would include;

    1. Do not be scared to step out into the unknown
    2. Do not allow others to make you feel small
    3. Do not lose focus
    4. Do not prioritise other things before reading the word and praying
    5. Do not give up on your dreams
    6. Do not forget to be thankful
    7. Do not forget to enjoy the moment
    8. Do not forget the importance of relationships

  12. Right now the biggest issue on that list for me is procrastination. Specifically, I’ve been procrastinating about doing my taxes.
