4 Simple Ways To Stay Focused

4 Simple Ways To Stay FocusedIt’s not always easy, but you need to focus on having a successful side hustle or business. Numerous distractions can try to make you lose that focus. I’ve compiled a list of 4 simple ways that will help you stay focused.

Get Enough Rest

It seems like being a part of #TeamNoSleep is all the wave right now. Listening to some people you’d believe that every successful person is not getting any sleep. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Going to bed late every night and waking up early every morning will eventually get to you. It’s not healthy for you. The more tired you are, the less mentally sharp you will be. Getting adequate rest will allow you to have more energy. You will be able to plan and make better decisions about your business.

Use Social Media Less

Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Google + are just a few of the social media websites that have taken over people’s lives. I enjoy social media, but I realized a while ago that they could become addicting if you allow them to. You can’t expect to get things done if you’re liking pics all day on Instagram or commenting on everyone’s Facebook status. A good suggestion would be to use social media at a particular time of day or to use one of the online apps that block those sites temporarily.

Watch Less Television

I will admit it, I used to look at a whole lot of TV. I wasted a lot of valuable time doing that. During the period where I didn’t work full-time last year that changed. Instead of watching TV from the sun up until sun down I used that time wisely to create content for my website. I also came up with ideas for future business ventures. I still watch some TV, but it’s not garbage like reality shows. Some of y’all know how I feel about reality TV. It’s trash. Those hours wasted watching “Housewives of whoever” could be used more productively.

Get Organized

The final way to get focused is to get organized. Organization is key. I’m a huge fan of writing things down on paper. You will see small post it notes all over my apartment. I also have a planner that I use to jot down things that need to be done on certain dates. You will see a HUGE difference once you get organized.

To summarize, the four simple ways to stay focused are to get enough rest, use social media less, watch less TV and get organized. Those are things that anyone can do. A lot of people claim that they want to make a change in their life and get focused, but they don’t do anything about it.

  1. I am so riding the stay focus bus right now, for there are so many things I need to get done in my professional and personal life, and I realize that only way to make it happen is to rid my life of everyday distractions. I have pretty much giving up TV also for you are right that, for the most part it is a waste of time. I use to love reality TV, but it just got to the point where I don’t want to be entertained by other people’s bad and vulgar behavior. Most of the programs and commercials are so sexualize and its just plan old boring….boring…boring…
    Thanks for the pep talk.

    • I’m glad I could help. I believe that watching less TV is the beginning to getting focused. I used to watch a couple reality shows like Flavor of Love and the Terrell Owens show. One day something clicked. I can’t waste time watching someone else’s life. I have my own and it’s pretty freaking awesome.

  2. Not getting enough sleep has never been a good idea. I’m thrilled to see you are learning this sooner than later:) It took me while….
Also agree that scheduling social media time may be a great tool for making it productive. But I had to go down that rabbit hole more than a few times before I got the message! Great tips…………

  3. Great tips, Jason. I think social media has had a huge negative impact on my ability to stay focused. I would be much better off only checking it at set intervals (i.e. every 4 hours), but I pretty much take a look at stuff every hour or so.

I stay focused by putting on headphones and minimizing distractions. It also helps when I’m close to a deadline as I’m extra motivated to finish things in those situations.

  4. Hi Jason. I’m a great believer of getting adequate sleep especially for recharging.
Social media is a huge distraction. Thanks for the reminder!

  5. Lack of sleep is my number one enemy, but I’m working on it. Not being well-rested impacts all else.

  6. The best way for me to become unfocused is not get enough sleep. Next is being disorganized. If I put the two together I’m done for.

  7. I do not get enough sleep – 4-5 hours a night .

I rarely watch TV – one or two hour long shows a week and a few films. I am not even fussed if I miss them. I no longer watch soaps (all the rage in the UK) and I seriously wish I had made this decision sooner.

I probably check Facebook and LinkedIn far too often. Another blogger recommended scheduling time slots during the day to check social media. I need to follow suit.

To do lists are essential and very much part of my life.

In terms of housework, I do little and often. Everything has it’s place.

  8. Hi Jason, great tips.
I often have insomnia and I know for a fact that not enough sleep pushes me down. I am definitely not able to function the way I should after one of those nights.
I’m still fairly new to social media – and truth to tell a little bit scared of it yet – so probably don’t spend as much time on it as I should.
TV watching has never been for me. I would much rather read and listen to music so no problem there.
As for being organized, it’s the only way to go.

  9. If I have a bane of my plans, it is not being focused.
Thanks for sharing these tips with me, I will implement them.

  10. I’m not a good sleeper. I fall asleep easily but wake up much too early and usually can’t get back to sleep. I don’t watch much tv but do spend quite a bit of time on social media. I try to be very organized. So I’m a mixed bag. Nice suggestions.

  11. Great tips you shared here. Since I use social media quite a bit to promote my business, what I do is to limit my time there. I use the Pomodoro Pro app on my phone to help me stay on track with my time limit there. I also use a planner to keep me track of my schedules too.

  12. Great tips you shared here. I usually set a timer whenever I’m on social media so that it can limit my time there and not be carried away. I also keep 2 planners: one is the conventional one where I plot everything and another one in my phone so that I make sure that in case I forget my planner when I’m on a rush, I don’t miss out on anything.
