I will never forget it. March 1995, my family and I went on our first family vacation. I was in the 5th grade. My family decided to take my siblings and me to Myrtle Beach, SC during spring break. I can admit I was very excited. This was my first time going to Myrtle Beach. It was also our 1st big family trip.
Being that the trip was 19 years ago I can’t remember too many details. What I can remember is that it sparked something in me. After that trip I knew that I had a new addiction. That new addiction was called Traveling. There is something amazing about visiting a city that is not your own. I enjoy immersing myself in their culture and bumping shoulders with the locals.
Circumstances didn’t allow us to take another family trip until 19 years later. I didn’t let that stop me. As a kid I told myself that once I turned 18 it was on. I was going to try and travel as much as I could.
I entered Savannah State University as a freshman in August 2002. I had the chance to meet some come people that felt almost the same way about traveling as I did. I had the opportunity to go to New York City and Nashville, TN for separate alternative spring break programs. Not only did I get the chance to visit cities that I’ve never been to before at the time, I also got a chance to do volunteer work in each city.
Since that time I’ve had the chance to see cities such as Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Washington D.C and Milwaukee just to name a few. I’ve also had the chance to literally see America from coast to coast. It’s an interesting feeling being in certain airports with your friends and a couple people are basically looking at you in a weird, but not bad way. (I want to tell them “no I don’t rap or play sports” 🙂 ). It’s also very cool talking to complete strangers about life in airport bars.
I have several travel goals such as attending a baseball game in every MLB stadium and finally putting my passport to use. I know that those goals will happen.
Do you like to travel? If so, why or why not? Would you consider it an addiction?
