College football season is one of the best times of the year. It doesn’t matter if your school is a powerhouse (Alabama, UGA, etc.) or not. It is a great time to be a student or alumni. Here are five reasons why I loved college football as a student.
#1 School Spirit
My school (Savannah State University) was not very good at football while I was there. Honestly, they still are not good, but you support them anyway. There is nothing like seeing people dressed in orange and blue (our colors) cheering for the team. It’s one of the times when everybody is on the same page.
#2 Halftime Shows
Depending on where you go to school, halftime may be the best part of the game. Certain bands get down at halftime. They put together awesome shows that feature beautiful cheerleaders and dancers. They also perform up to date and old-school selections of popular songs.
There is nothing like tailgating. Tailgating is like a big party outside of the stadium. People are usually grilling food and listening to music. Sometimes the radio station sets up and does remote broadcasts. Tailgating can start as early as 7 am and last until midnight.
#4 Road Trips
Your team’s away games can turn into road trips. It doesn’t matter if they are playing in a classic or just a regular away game; you have the opportunity to road trip and support them. As a student I made road trips to Statesboro, GA, Macon, GA, Jacksonville, FL and Columbia, SC to watch my team play. There is nothing like a road trip. You get to watch your team play in another stadium. You can also network with students from the other schools.
#5 Something to Do on Saturdays
After a long week of classes, the games give you something to do on a Saturday. It’s better to get out and mingle with your friends than to stay in a dorm. After football season you will have plenty of Saturdays to be lazy.
I still love college football, but you can’t do these things as much as an alumni. You have other priorities once you get older. I also stay 3 hours away from my school.
Do you like college football?? How is your team doing this season??
